Suvretta | 7500 St. Moritz
Unique setting in the midst of a Swiss stone pine and larch wood.
Built 1911 – 12 by Karl Koller for Anton Bon; interior reconstruction 1928. Castle-like complex with a stepped hip roof. Accentuation of the middle of the building with an enormous, cambered gable between two round towers. Lounges copy those of comfortable and cosy English country homes; Wood is favoured in place of the usual, often pompous décor and furnishings with painted ceilings, gilded stucco and marble, which was common at that time.
(Kunstführer durch Graubünden, Hg. Gesellschaft für Schweizerische Kunstgeschichte. Eng. translation of the title: Art Guide of Graubünden, ed. Society for the History of Swiss Art, Zurich 2008. This book has only been published in German.)
